C. Noel Chambers, 96, of South Daytona, FL, died June 21, 2023 at the Emory L. Bennett Veterans Nursing Home in Daytona Beach, FL. He was born in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania and was educated there and in Washington, D.C.
Noel was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific theater. He was employed with Dow Jones & Company, Inc. in 1956 to help set up the Washington, D.C. printing facilities and subsequently moved to the White Oak, Maryland printing center. He was promoted to Eastern Edition advertising services manager for The Wall Street Journal at Chicopee in December 1965. He retired in March 1991.
After retiring, he enjoyed doing volunteer work at Fountain Park on Tinkham Road in Wilbraham, as well as traveling the world. His hobbies included restoring vintage sports cars and building furniture. He resided in Wilbraham from 1966 to 2009 and was a member of Wilbraham United Church. He moved to Daytona Beach, FL in 2009 and obtained a motorcycle license in his 80s to have fun riding around Florida.
He was predeceased by his wife Doris (Ross) Chambers, and leaves behind his two children, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. They include his son, Stephen Ross Chambers of Ponce Inlet, FL, his daughter, Janice C. Flynn & her husband Michael J. Flynn of Groton Long Point, CT, his three grandchildren, Erin Flynn & her husband Gabriel Foster of Maui, HI, Caitlin Flynn of Brookline, MA, and Kerry Flynn & her husband Michael Murphy of Brooklyn, NY, and his great granddaughters, Moira & Aoife Foster.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Sampson's Chapel of the Acres, 21 Tinkham Road in Springfield, MA on Wednesday, June 28th from 5:00-7:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emory L. Bennett Veterans Nursing Home at 1920 Mason Ave, Daytona Beach, FL 32117 or the American Heart Association.
