Cecil Ransford Cummings, also known by friends as Red, age 97, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday,  May 27, 2018 in the presence of his loving wife, daughters and grandchildren.

Cecil was born on 9/18/1920 to Edith and Cassius Cummings in Tioga Township, Pennsylvania.

Cecil's story is one of family, hard work, patriotism and true love. He grew up working on the family farm with his 7 siblings. In 1942 while working at Bendix Aviation in Palmyra New York, he met Martha, the love of his life. He asked her out for their first date on Valentine 's Day and they were married two months later on April 22, 1942.

1943 was a busy year, Martha gave birth to their twin daughters and Cecil was inducted into the US Navy to serve in WWII on the U.S.S. Mackinac. After honorable discharge and obtaining the Asiatic Pacific Victory Medal, he returned to his family to begin the next chapter of his life.

Cecil was a builder, craftsman, inventor and artist. From building homes and bird houses to inventing tools and systems, all are great examples of the care, creativity and quality he took in everything he did. His joyous and positive personality was infectious. He would spontaneously dance with Martha in the living room, push the grandkids around on the vacuum cleaner, and tell each one he loved them "A bushel and a peck and a hug around your neck". Other Cecilisms' include "There is no such word as Can't" and when asked how to ensure a long successful marriage "Just say Yes!"

Cecil and Martha's earthly love lasted 76 years. The family feels very fortunate to have had so much time with this amazing man. Cecil is survived by his wife Martha, his twin daughters Sheila and Sharon, his grandchildren and their families: Sandi and Michael, Sam and Diana with children Amber, Morgan and Sarah, Jack and Julie with children Joshua and Jesse, Heather and Udo, Norma and Sam with children Chad and Ashlea and family, and Scott with children Shaun and Kyle and extended families and nephews and nieces.
