Obituary

Cecelia Pope, a beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away on March 29, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in 1932, she met her late husband, Bob, in the Air Force, and they raised four children: Robert, Frankie, BJ, and Karen.

For 40 years, Cecelia was a registered nurse specializing in epidemiology, with her career tied to the Volusia County Health Department, where she played a key role in establishing AIDS clinics in the 1980s and 90s. Her expertise and compassion left a profound impact. Known for her strength and warmth, she built a lasting legacy.

Survived by her children and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, Cecelia was predeceased by Bob, her parents, and her 13 siblings. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who filled her life with love and laughter. Decades of Christmases and Thanksgivings were celebrated at her house, where she prepared wonderful meals for this large family, creating cherished traditions. A couple of her favorite pastimes were playing bingo several times a week and crabbing with her kids and grandkids, moments that brought her immense happiness.

There will be a viewing (10am) and mass (11 am) at The Basilica of St. Paul Catholic Church, in Daytona Beach, on Friday, April 11, 2025. Interment to follow at Daytona Memorial Park.  Friends can visit and pay their last respects.  Her memory lives on in her service and love.
