Cathleen M. McGuire 97 of Ormond Beach died peacefully Tuesday May 15 2012. Family invites friends to a Visitation in her honor on Friday May 18 2012 from 3-5pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday May 21 2012 at St. Brendan's Catholic Church at 11am in Ormond Beach. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Born September 14 1914 in New York City Cathleen was the daughter of the late John and Ellen (Mullaney) McKeon both Irish immigrants. She was educated in the New York City school system and won a High School citywide shorthand competition. She married the love of her life Luke McGuire on Thanksgiving Day 1937 in New York City. They celebrated 59 years together. Cathleen lost Luke December 24 1996. Cathleen and Luke moved to Pepperell MA in 1952. They raised their family there until 1985 when they moved to Ormond Beach. They truly loved the Florida lifestyle. Cathleen contrasted this with a story she loved to tell of a day in Pepperell they had to climb out a window to get to work because the snow was too deep to open the door. Cathleen was a devout parishioner of St. Brendan's Parish where she had many friends and was a daily mass attendee. She was employed for nearly 30 years as a telephone operator for the various iterations of the Telephone Company AT&T New England Telephone and finally Verizon. She was a dedicated employee and loved her work and felt she was helping people. Cathleen was a member of the Pioneers. She loved dogs the bigger the better. She was an accomplished knitter; all family members have sweaters scarves etc made by her hands. As a youngster she was an expert Irish Step Dancer. Cathleen was an excellent cook and was legendary for her spaghetti and meatball recipe which she guarded carefully. Cathleen is survived by her 3 children: Patricia Anderson (George) of Ormond Beach Kathleen Moore (the late Jerome) of Pepperell MA and James McGuire (Kathleen) of Ormond Beach. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren 15 great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren. She was extremely proud of all of her family. She will be sadly missed by all.
