Higgins Catherine Angela "Katy" (nee McCormack) - Catherine Angela "Katy" Higgins 86 a resident of Bishop's Glen Assisted Living Center and 511 N. Ridgewood Ave. Ormond Beach FL departed this life on Friday December 22 2006 at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial following a brief illness. Mrs. Higgins was born on February 29 1920 in Dublin Ireland a daughter of the late William and Margaret (Robinson) McCormack. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Preparatory Academy Dublin. She often spoke of her great love for her homeland and of the happy memories spent cycling with her friends throughout the Irish countryside. In September 1944 she was united in marriage with Patrick J. Higgins who preceded her in death on May 29 2000 after 55 years of marriage. In 1958 Mr.& Mrs. Higgins moved from Dublin Ireland to Parkersburg West Virginia where they made their home until their retirement in 1976 when they moved to this area. She is survived by two daughters Cora N. Ray of New Smyrna Beach & Nuala M. Sinsel (Charles A. III) of Ormond Beach; three grandchildren: Patrick M. Ray of Arkansas Steven Patrick Riddle (Elizabeth) of Montgomery AL and Christina D. Riddle of Alexandria VA and one great grandchild Blake Michael Riddle the son of Steven Riddle and his wife Elizabeth. Katy had many friends dear to her heart. She had a great love for dancing singing and acting and was active in the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center Koppy Kats and the Hawaiian dance group Kalana Wahines. Katy was performing in the theatre and with the up until the day before she suffered a fatal stroke on December 16 2006. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Brendan's Roman Catholic Church on Friday January 12 2007 at 10:00 A.M. A reception at the Church Hall will be held immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations in the name of Katy Higgins be made to Florida Hospital Memorial Hospice Care 770 W. Granada Blvd Ormond Beach FL 32174.
