Carolyn G. Gohl died peacefully Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at Port Orange Nursing and Rehab at the age of 97 3/4. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the eldest child of Paul R. Miller and Clara M. Ferris. Three younger siblings predeceased her: Harry E. Miller, Kenneth R. Miller, and Eunice B. Miller Robinson.
Carolyn graduated from Poughkeepsie High in 1938. After graduation, she worked at Trussell Manufacturing Company in Poughkeepsie where she met her husband, James Gohl. Jim died in 1997 after 58 years of marriage.
Carol and Jim lived in New York, Ohio, and California before settling down in their favorite spot: Edgewater, Florida. They moved to Florida in 1963 and stayed forever.
Although she held a few jobs in her younger years, Carol's favorite "job" was church volunteer. The people at Edgewater Union Church became her second family. She spent time as church treasurer, took a turn as "flower girl", and was happy being part of the church's Willing Workers.
In her spare time, Carol was Captain of her bowling team and she loved crochet and needlework. She was a member of that Greatest Generation. To her last day, she proudly displayed photos of all the family men who served in World War II on her bureau. She always said we were lucky to have all of them return home safely. It was a very special day when she visited the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. with family.
Carolyn .. Aunt Sis .. is survived by two nieces, Patricia Chrisfield, Easton, MD, and Karen Raible, Boynton Beach, FL. Also surviving are two great nieces, Tammy Wilson, FL, and Becky Morlier, TX, and one great nephew, Jeff Chrisfield, MD. And, she was proudly great grand aunt to Benjamin, Nicholas, and Patrick Fazio, FL, and Calvin and Jay Chrisfield, MD.
Family and friends were Carol's joy. When asked how they managed through the 30's and 40's, her response was: "We all stuck together!" She lived the longest of that nucleus family and we know she is happily reunited with them now.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday, September 24, at Edgewater Union Church, 500 South Ridgewood Avenue, Edgewater, FL, directly following regular morning services.
