SIGLER, CAROLENE EVELYN (DAFLER)
Carolene E. Sigler, 91, of New Smyrna Beach passed away peacefully on September 22, 2016. Carolene was born on November 10, 1924 in Preble County, Ohio. She was the oldest daughter of 12 children to Joseph R and Wanda E (Unger) Dafler of Preble County, Ohio who predeceased her. She is also predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years Hugh Sigler and 7 brothers Joe, Gerald, Art, Dale, Gene, Paul and John Dafler.
She is survived by her 6 children, Larry Sigler (Debby), Gail Roe (Terry), Dean Sigler ( Tami), Susan Sigler, Linda Sigler, Ann Gagne (Warren) , grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers Fred and Kenneth Dafler and sisters Samantha Riffel and Patricia Murray as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Carolene was primarily a homemaker, but did work at the family business, Bailey-Sigler, Inc. and served as the Corporation Secretary. She worked at Twin Valley Bank in Ohio when she was first married and later on at First National Bank of New Smyrna Beach.
Carolene was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Smyrna Beach, Florida since 1960. She was active in the choir, and the Mary Meier Circle. She served in various positions of the Executive Board of the Lutheran Church Women, taught Sunday school and Bible school. Carolene was a member of several bowling leagues and served as Secretary of the Coffee League at New Smyrna Lanes for many years. She also served as a Director on the Daytona Beach Women's Bowling Association. She was the President of the Read-Pattillo Elementary School PTA when her younger daughters attended.
Carolene was the family chauffer taking her children to sports practices, piano lessons, bowling leagues and driving them on their paper routes. She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for herself and children. She won blue ribbons at the Volusia County Fair for her fine sewing. She loved to travel and took many vacations with her husband all over the world. She loved to play bingo each week and enjoyed the occasional trip to various casinos.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she will be missed.
The family wishes to thank the staff of New Smyrna Assisted Living Facility and the staff of Halifax Hospice for the loving care they provided.
Service for Carolene will be held Friday, September 30, 2016, 12:00 noon at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona Bellevue Ave with the Reverend David Rike of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church presiding, interment to follow at Daytona Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lohman Funeral Home.
