Carol Ann Wagner (Winger) of Lancaster, Pennsylvania passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in the arms of her husband on Tuesday, March 6 ^th 2018.

Carol was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania on January 26 ^th , 1939 to the late Samuel D. Winger & Ethel B. Cooper (Winger). She was preceded in death by her brother Samuel Wayne Winger. Carol was a graduate of Mercer High School, class of 1956. Carol also attended Sharon Business School. She was married to her best friend and life partner, Oliver Eugene (Gene) Wagner; as high school sweethearts, they were then married on January 18 ^th 1957 at Mercer United Methodist Church and shared 61 years happily together.

She worked at Montgomery Pharmacy and was secretary for her father's business, Winger Coal Company, for over 20 years. She was a loyal member and active contributor to Mercer United Methodist Church (which she was a member for 60+ years) and United Presbyterian Church in Daytona Beach with which she loved both churches and their respective members like family. Carol served as PTO president at her daughter Cindy's elementary school and served as a past worthy advisor of Rainbow Girl's in Mercer, Pennsylvania.

Carol was known to have a heart of gold and was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbor. She considered every person she met as a friend.  Her life long spirit, style and grace were carried out daily throughout her life. Her infectious energy, warm smile and contagious laughter touched everyone around her and her faith was carried out with her compassion for anyone in need. She spent countless hours sending cards, making phone calls and selflessly giving.

In 1998, Carol and Gene moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to be closer to their children and grandchildren. She loved spending her winter months in Florida with her husband in their family home, which has been passed down through the generations and they celebrated their love for their family and friends with an open door policy; everyone was always welcome.

Her deep love for her family was of utmost importance. She will be longingly missed by her husband, Gene, her two daughters, Cindy Shaffer and Marci Herr, wife of Daryl Herr. Grandchildren Matt and wife Julie Shaffer, Cody Shaffer and Rikki Schlappich, Kayla Shaffer, Kristie Herr, Lindsey (Herr) Stephenson and husband Robert Stephenson, Alexis Herr and Ashley Herr. Great grandchildren Taylor, Mason and Myla Shaffer, children of Matt and Julie Shaffer, and expecting a fourth great grandchild to Lindsey (Herr) Stephenson & Robert Stephenson. Gene and Carol loved their friends and neighbors like family including close long-time friend Lois Hiles. They also loved their fur family including family pets Maddie, Jimmy, Titus, Bailey , Sadie, Ellie and Phoebe.

A private service by invitation will be held in April for family and close friends in Lancaster, PA.

An additional service will also be held at Mercer United Methodist Church, 250 East Butler Street, Mercer, PA, on May 5th, 2018 at 11:30a.

In lieu of flowers, celebration of life donations may be made to the following organizations which were close to Carol's heart: Mercer United Methodist Church, United Presbyterian Church in Daytona Beach, Water Street Rescue Mission and Wounded Warrior Project.
