Carol "Sarge" Barnard, 85, of South Daytona passed away on Friday November 4, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born to Joseph and Rose Barnard on July 27, 1931 in Burlington, Vermont. He moved to Florida in 1948 with his parents and younger sister Eunice and brother Johnny, all deceased. Carol better known as Sarge graduated from Mainland High School and served in the Navy on a Destroyer Escort. He joined the Daytona Beach Police Department in 1954. He married the love of his life Bonnie in 1954. Their first of four daughters, Tanya was born in 1959 with Tami, Annette and Nanette to follow. Kevin rounded out their family. Sarge is survived by eleven grandchildren, Sheena and Adam Love, Rebecca and Daniel Vazquez, Kayla Sault, Maria and Kyle Karafa, Kevin Terrall, Ashley Pelchach, Tyler Pelchach and Alexis Terrall, Jonathan and Carrie Pollard and Andrew Sault. Six great- grandchildren and his loving wife of 63 ½ years, Bonnie.
Sarge retired from the Daytona Beach Police Department in 1974 as a Sergeant. One of his greatest pleasures was playing Santa for many children every year at WORC, Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Boy scouts and private parties.
A Visitation will be held from 1-2pm on Wednesday November 9, 2016 with the Funeral Service being held at 2pm all in the Chapel at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona. Burial will follow in Daytona Memorial Park.
Memorial Donations may be made in his memory to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation.
