Carl Richard Sanderson, 62, passed peacefully on January 11, 2021 at 9:11 pm. after losing a valiant fight with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife of 18 years, and his children when he took his journey to be with Jesus. Carl was born in Dansville, New York on April 24, 1958, to John Thomas and Mary Helen Sanderson (Shubmehl). He attended Dansville Central School (Class of 76).

Carl married his wife, Sandra (Van Arsdale) on November 30, 2002, becoming a loving and proud stepfather to Garrik and Barbara. But his proudest and most joyful moments in life were spent with their three children teaching them compassion and the importance of giving and community responsibility.

Carl was known to all, as a selfless and giving man who could fix anything and willing to drop everything to help someone in need. He was a fierce advocate for his daughter, Morgan. He devoted his life to the service of others. He was an active member of the Sparta Fire Department (Sparta, New York) for 35 years and remains a life member. He held many positions within the department, including Chief, he was a proud and loyal member. He joined the Dansville Ambulance Company in 1999 as a driver. He later obtained his EMT license and became an EMT instructor; mentoring future EMT's and community service members. Throughout his time with the DAC he held many positions, including Director and had responded to over one thousand calls.  He was credited with saving two lives and rescuing countless others in some way shape or form, during his service. He was a parishioner of the Dansville Foursquare Church until his last breath.

Carl was employed at Weinberger's Hardware store in Rochester NY and shared many fond memories of his years there. Carl continued his service to the community when he became an instructor for New York Rides, teaching responsible and safe motorcycle operation. After moving to Florida, Carl joined the Citizens on Patrol (C.O.P) program and was short term member of the Fun Coast Down Syndrome Association. He continued his love of volunteer work, as an active board member of the Flagler Baseball program, and as a Flagler County school district volunteer; until his health began to fail.

Carl is survived by his wife Sandra Sanderson,  2 sons, Kyle Sanderson and Garrik Van Arsdale-Lamb, 3 daughters, Morgan Sanderson, Margaret Sanderson of Palm Coast and Barbara (Devyn) Bremmer of Bunnell, Fl., sisters Karen (Bruce) Parsons of Sanford North Carolina and Rachel F. Repass of Buffalo, NY, several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his Mother-in-law Barbara Van Arsdale, his four grandsons, whom he loved so much; Travis Van Arsdale-Lamb, Westley, Donevan and Fisher Bremmer, along with his best friend and "brother", Vernon Massey of Greece, NY. Many friends and acquaintances.

Carl was preceded in death and welcomed into heaven by his parents, John and Mary, sister Jean Marie Sanderson, brother John Henry Sanderson, father-in-law Donald E. Van Arsdale Sr. brother-in-law Donald E. Van Arsdale Jr., and his dearest friend Robert "Bob" Hartzell. We can only imagine, the reception he received.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Lohman Funeral Home in Palm Coast. Family and friends may call from 5-7pm on Friday, January 22 at the funeral home. A firefighter's memorial will take place at a later date in his hometown.
