Carl Lee Rubright Jr. August 3, 1938 – April 8, 2026
Port Orange, Florida — Carl Lee Rubright Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026.
Born in Sterling, Illinois, to Carl and Irene Rubright, Carl grew up with a deep appreciation for family, hard work, and simple joys. As a young man, he loved caring for horses, raising pigeons, and being the best big brother to his Sister, Connie. He learned the value of a strong work ethic working alongside his father in the family’s excavation company — lessons that would guide him throughout his life.
In 1955, Carl married his childhood sweetheart, Rosalie Runge, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Together they raised their family and built a life full of joy and adventures. Carl and Rosalie gave their children the best childhood memories — a home filled with fun, outdoor adventures, and exciting vacations that shaped who they are today.
In his younger years, Carl enjoyed stock car racing at The Rockford Speedway in Rockford, Illinois, a passion he pursued until a few years after his marriage.
In 1963, Carl moved his family to Peoria, Illinois, where he worked for National Disposal Company and later for Browning-Ferris Industries, eventually becoming Sales Manager. During this time, he also proudly served his community as a volunteer fireman, a role that reflected his dedication to helping others. A self-made entrepreneur, he went on to build his own successful business, Rubright’s Disposal Company.
Always ready for a new challenge, Carl and Rosalie sold everything in Peoria and moved to Florida in 1976. They purchased Oceanside Cottages on Daytona Beach Shores and later another motel in Daytona Beach. After selling the motels, they settled in Port Orange and began a new venture as owner-operator long-haul truck drivers. Carl continued trucking until his retirement in 2010.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Rubright of Port Orange; sons, Gary Rubright of Port Orange and Carl Rubright III of South Daytona; sisters, Connie of Muscatine, Iowa, and Gloria of Rockford, Illinois; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosalie Rubright (December 21, 2025); his parents, Carl and Irene Rubright; and his brother, David Raab. Carl will be remembered for his integrity, determination, and love of family — a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Woodland Cemetery, 399 Orange Avenue, Port Orange, Florida.
