Obituary

Funeral services for Carl Victor Newman will be held on Sunday December 30 2007 at 2 pm at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona with a visitation for family and friends on Saturday December 29 from 6-8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home. Mr. Newman of 225 Gettysburg Lane entered into eternal rest on Sunday December 16 2007 at the Halifax Hospital in Port Orange. He was born in Philadelphia PA to the late Karol and Stella (Pancygrau) Newman. He attended Drexel University School of Engineering in Philadelphia and George Washington University College of Naval Architecture. After a few months in the Army he was called to Washington D.C. as a Naval Architect for the Maritime Administration where he worked for the next 35 years. While in Washington he made many friends in Congress and the shipbuilding industry often traveling to New York and the shipyards to inspect his ships. After suffering a near fatal heart attack he retired to Florida to be near the beach and the ocean that he loved and enjoyed. As his health permitted he and Evelyn were able to travel to many wonderful places in the United States and abroad and to take over two dozen cruises. Everyone that knew Carl loved his warm pleasant smile and generous sense of humor and his visible joy of life. His nurses at Halifax said that he he although gravely ill was their favorite patient and they came to him first for he always cheered them up for the day. He loved music especially opera and semi-classical. He often enjoyed playing his favorite music on the piano with Evelyn joining him on the organ. Music was always a part of their evening meal and throughout the day one could hear Carl whistling his favorite tune. He often said" I've had a wonderful full life and have been truly blessed with a happy childhood a marvelous marriage and wonderful children and grandchildren and a truly great extended family." He will be sadly missed by all whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife Evelyn and two daughters; Carla Andresen (Mark) and Victoria Withers (Jim); a brother Richard Nesquehoning of PA and four grandchildren; Todd (Traci) and Sean Andresen Molly and Jimmy Withers brother-in-law; E.L. Musick (Mary); sister-in-law Daphne Gurney (Hugh); nieces; Sibyl Bundy Sally Musick Ellen Gurney Rose Bass; nephews James Moses Robin Thompson and cousins Ray Komar and Arthur Norris.
