He was also preceded by his sisters Carmelina Lupica Lowenpabst and just recently, Mariana, who passed on Feb 14, 2016 at 101 years old. He has one surviving sister Josephine Lupica Fazio.
Carl and his brother in law, Sam Fazio, co owned and operated Sam & Carl's Delicatessen in Coral Gables, FL for over 27 years before moving the whole family and restaurant to DeLand in 1980. After leaving the restaurant business Carl and his daughter in law, Peggy Ransing Lupica, started Carl's Fernery, which his son Carl Jr. still owns and operates today. Carl was a devout man of faith and loved to share his love of the Lord with his employees and patrons. In Miami he worked with St. Vincent de Paul society to feed the poor and migrant workers. He also worked with the Knights of Columbus Squires, a faith based youth group. In 1995 Nancy & Carl, known to everyone as Ma & Pa, went to work with their youngest son, Emmanuel Lupica, at his restaurant Angelina's Pizzeria in DeLand. They spent 16 years there helping him grow the restaurant business. People came to sit with he and his beloved wife Nancy Lupica to hear them share the word and love of God. They felt they could help people and so that's what they did. People and employees would often stay late into the night to hear their stories or share bible verses. They also loved to talk to customers and give out Ma's freshly baked cookies. Ma passed September 21, 2014.
