Obituary

Carl Eugene Hoy 90 beloved husband of 67 years and resident of Daytona Beach Shores passed away on March 15 2010. He was born on July 18 1919 in Findlay Ohio where he lived until graduation from Mt. Blanchard High School. Carl earned his Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering from Bowling Green State University after returning from service in the US Air Force during WWII. Captain Hoy was a dedicated pilot with most of his flight time in B-26s over North Africa with numerous missions into Europe. He was recognized and honored having received the "Distinguished Flying Cross" "Purple Heart" and "Bronze Star" among others. After working 38 years as an Industrial Engineer for Autolite in Toledo OH and later Prestolite in Decatur AL and finally with C&D Battery in Conshohocken PA he and his wife Wilma retired and relocated to Florida. Carl enjoyed a good game of bridge walks on the beach ballroom dancing and a fondness for cars; however his greatest passion was the stock market. He could often be found reading the Wall Street Journal or analyzing an investment on his computer. Carl was a friend to many and was widely known as frank and honest and quick-witted at moments when his more serious side wasn't showing through. His family and friends do cherish the time they had with him and will forever hold him close in their hearts. He is survived by his wife loyal companion and best friend Wilma; son Barry Hoy and his wife Jeanne of Merritt Island daughter JoAnn Rode and her husband Steve of Falls Church VA; five grandchildren six great-grandchildren and many dear friends. A private family service will be held at a later date. Donations may be sent in his name to Westminster by-the-Sea Presbyterian Church 3221 S. Peninsula Drive Daytona Beach Shores FL 32118.
