Calvin Homer LaMotte

Calvin Homer LaMotte of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away on August 1, 2019. Mr. LaMotte was born June 1, 1924, in Waverly (Baltimore), Maryland. Raised in Govans, Maryland, he attended Guilford Elementary #214 and Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, graduating in June 1942. Following graduation, Calvin began work at the Western Electric Company in Baltimore. In March 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy and attended boot camp and signal school. He served on a total of 4 Merchant Marine ships during World War II and left the Navy in March 1946 as a Signalman 2nd class.

Mr. LaMotte returned to work at Western Electric and retired as a supervisor with 41 years of service on July 1, 1983. He and his second wife relocated to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, where they became active in the Blue Ridge Acres Community Club and the Blue Ridge Acres Civic Association, as well as other Jefferson County entities. After 19 years, the LaMotte's moved to Halifax Plantation, Volusia County, Florida, where they have remained active in community and civic affairs.

Mr. LaMotte was a Boy Scout with Troop 173 and served as Assistant Scoutmaster and later Scoutmaster. He became an Eagle Scout and received the Silver Beaver, an award given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. It is given to those who do not actively seek it.

Mr. LaMotte was preceded in death by his first wife, Miriam Ruth (née Meyers), and his parents, Homer Bryan LaMotte and Marie Elizabeth (née Berl) LaMotte.

Mr. LaMotte is survived by his wife of 46 years, Bettie Jeannette (née James), 2 sons by his first marriage, Lawrence Alan LaMotte and Keith Bryan LaMotte, 5 granddaughters, Tiffany Allison, Tara Daniele, Amanda Marie, Karin Michele, and Kristen Miriam, and several great-grandchildren.

Mr. LaMotte is a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Waverly Lodge in Baltimore, Maryland, Baltimore Forest No. 45, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Irish Social Club of Palm Coast Florida, the AARP, US Navy Armed Guard WWII Veterans, a Life Member of American Legion Post 22, Towson, Maryland, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Daytona Beach, and Telephone Pioneers of America.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association, Central and North Florida Chapter, 378 Center Pointe Circle, Suite 1280, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701-3442.
