Bruce William Teeters

On Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, Bruce William Teeters passed away at Halifax, ICU, in Daytona Beach, FL., with his loving wife Patty and children, Michael, Christine and Brian by his side.

Bruce was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Feb. 8 ^th , 1945 to loving parents, Bert & Ida Teeters. He was welcomed into the family by his sister Barb & brother Jack.  The family moved to the west coast of Florida when Bruce was about 8.

He graduated from Dixie Hollins High School in St. Petersburg, FL., where he was an excellent student, star football player & All Star baseball player.  He was voted "Best All Around" in his senior year.

From high school, he attended Florida State University where he received his Bachelor's and Master of Business Administration degrees.  He was recognized for his academic achievements with acceptance into Beta Gamma Sigma and Alpha Beta PSI.  Bruce was a proud member of Sigma Chi fraternity.  He continued to enjoy attending Florida State football games with Sigma Chi brothers and families.  They seemed to know every point that Florida State scored ever.  He was a member of the Seminole Booster Club, and was thrilled to fund an athletic scholarship; he was also on board of the Florida State Seminole Club.  He served as captain of the Quarterback Club of Daytona Beach.

Bruce served in the United States Army.  He was honorably discharged in 1974.  He was always happy to serve on KP duty, because he loved potatoes, and could eat all he wanted while pealing them.

Following the Army, Bruce was a practicing CPA for 10 years with the firm Deloitte, Haskins, Sells and Touche Ross & Company.  He was a senior accountant and manager.

Bruce was employed by Consolidated-Tomoka Land Co., in November 1979 as Controller.  In 1985 he was elected Vice-President-Finance and Treasurer.  He served as Senior Vice President and Treasurer from 1988 until retirement.  He was elected to the Board of Directors in 1990, and served for 15 years.  As the Companies Chief Financial Officer, he directed all financial aspects of the company.  Bruce was also heavily involved in the acquisition of income producing properties, managed 1031 exchanges and leasing operations.  In 2012 he became Senior Vice President-Real Estate Operations and was heavily involved with real estate sales and development activities.  He retired in 2012.  Following retirement from Consolidated Bruce became a licensed real estate agent and worked with Adams Cameron in their commercial division.   Bruce had a reputation in the Community, as being an honest business man, whose word was truth.

Bruce had a tremendous love for Volusia County and worked tirelessly to make it a wonderful place where everyone could succeed.  He believed that the creation of good, quality jobs paying reasonable wages is essential for Volusia County and served as President of VCBDC (Volusia County Business Development Corp.)

He served as President of Daytona Beach Rotary and was a member for 34 years.  He was on the Board of Directors for United Way.  When Bruce was Chairman in 2001, the organization was awarded the Lasting Legacy award for United Way of America for best over all planned giving programs.

Bruce served on the boards or in an advisory capacity to the following groups; Community Foundation, V-Card, Daytona Beach Chamber of Commerce, Team Volusia, Art Haus, Bethune Cookman School of Business, Civic League, Quarterback club-past Captain.

Bruce was appointed as alternate member of Ormond Beach board of adjustments and appeals.  He served as a longtime head of Homeowners Association in Broadwater, where he jogged the neighborhood every morning to make sure everything was OK.

Bruce loved being part of the Checkered Flag Committee at the Speedway.  He was really excited to co-own with Patty the 1952 Hudson Hornet #6.  The car is a replica of Patty's dads car that won the "51 & 52" races on the beach in Daytona and is new in the Motorsports Hall of Fame.

Bruce believed that our children are our future.  He worked tirelessly, using his business acumen, to help many non-profits.  Serving children has been his passion.  He served on the corporate board of the YMCA for more than 20 years.  He believed that kids need good examples, places to go, and things to do.  They get that at the YMCA.

He served on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club and never stopped praising the job they were doing to give our children a good start in life. He also served on the board of Junior Achievement.

Bruce loved music, especially the Rolling Stones, dancing, travel, and just being with family and friends.  He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Ormond Beach.  Bruce was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed coaching his sons or just watching them participate in sports, encouraging their musical talents, and of course just bragging about how good they were in swimming skiing academics, etc.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 20 years, Patty Teague Teeters; Children; Michael (Amy) Teeters, their children; Julia & Kevin; Christine (Doug) Myers, their children; Gabe & Sam; Rob Teeters; Brian (Erin) Teeters, their children; Bodhi & Cole; Patty's sons; Chris(Julie) their children; Naomi & Christopher; Greg; Bobby and child Robbie.  Bruce was also survived by his wonderful sister, Barbara Whitmer.  He was predeceased by his brother, Jack Teeters.

Bruce was always willing and eager to offer help to anyone who asked.  One of his Florida State Sigma Chi friends said Bruce had been a mentor to him but he had never told him.  If there is anyone in your life who has helped you along the way, please tell them before it is too late.
