South Daytona Mayor Blaine O'Neal D.C. 43 died unexpectedly Friday April 9 2010. A lifelong South Daytona resident he served as mayor since 2005 and held public office in his hometown since 2000.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday April 14th at 2:00pm at Crossroads Baptist Church 1851 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. Daytona Beach FL. His family will receive friends on Tuesday April 13th from 5-8pm in the chapel of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona.

Dr. O'Neal earned his diploma in Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine from Life University in Marietta GA before setting up practice in Daytona Beach. A graduate of the League of Cities Institute and Advanced Institute for Elected Municipal Officials and a member of Leadership Florida's 28th Annul Class program the mayor's leadership skills and commitment to community service was evident in his many civic and professional affiliations. He was currently serving a president of the Volusia League of Cities vice-chairman of the Volusia Council of Governments and was elected to the Board of Directors of the Florida League of Mayors. In addition he served on numerous boards including Halifax Hospital Foundation, Daytona State College Foundation, Healthy Start, South Daytona Lion's Club, and the Florida League of Cities.

The Mayor was honored as the Elected Official of the Year Golden Eagle Award by the Volusia League of Cities. As Mayor his legacy includes the promotion of green initiatives park expansions underground-ing of utilities and flood mitigation solutions. He was a strong supporter of the nonprofit South Daytona Community Trust which funds community projects through private donations raised by the Annual Mayor's Cup Golf Tournament. A tireless advocate for his city the Mayor was also known through Volusia County as a promoter of cross-jurisdictional cooperation.

He is survived by his loving wife of five years Lisa O'Neal an two children Riley 10 and Blaine 4; his parents Raymond (Sonny) and Elaine O'Neal of Port Orange FL; nieces Ashley Davies of Port Orange Taylor Davies of Holly Hill; and nephew Shawn Davies of Holly Hill; grandmother Ouida O'Neal of South Daytona; and his mother-in-law Claudette Bergman of South Daytona.
