Billy R. (Bill) Swafford 77 passed away in Daytona Beach Florida on October 9 2010. Bill was born in Porterdale Georgia on August 1 1933 son of John and Evie McElhannon Swafford. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Kathleen R. Redmond Swafford; son and daughter-in-law Carl and Lynn Swafford; daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Kevin Jones; son Steve Swafford; daughter and son-in-law Luanne and Orlando Montoya; step-daughter Judy Raulerson; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren with one on the way! Bill proudly served in the navy during the Korean war aboard the USS Collett and the USS Grapple. He lived in California for many years before moving back to his home state of Georgia. There he worked for Remington Rand before starting B&K Office Furniture and Supplies with his wife in Atlanta. While living in Atlanta Bill was heavily involved with the Boy Scouts of America program and was a proud mentor to many young scouts. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors and camping with his wife and their dog Sarah. After retiring and moving to South Daytona Beach in 1987 Bill became an avid NASCAR fan as well as an ARCA official. He spent many enjoyable years at the Daytona International Speedway as well as Atlanta and Talladega and was well-known by many NASCAR and ARCA race teams. Bill was a current member of the First Baptist Church of South Daytona and made weekly visits to hospice patients at Port Orange Nursing and Rehab Center. He dearly loved the Lord and spoke of his faith to all he came in contact with. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler or any local hospice organization of the giver's choice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 16 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of South Daytona with the Reverend Ronnie Barton officiating.
