Obituary

Beverly Mangin Thompson, 73, of Palm Coast, Florida passed away with her loving son by her side on Saturday, August 9, 2025.

She was born in Youngstown, Ohio on September 10, 1951 to Albert and Virginia Mangin. She obtained her Associates Degree at Youngstown State University.  She began her career at the former Mahoning National Bank in Youngstown as a teller and progressed to heading their training department.  At the bank, Beverly met the love of her life, Bill Thompson, and married him on September 9, 1981, and began their family.  In 1989 they moved to Palm Coast, Florida.  She enjoyed playing tennis at the Players Club, going on family vacations, and became very active at her son's school, Wadsworth Elementary.  There she began as a parent volunteer, substituted for six years, and through the encouragement of her teacher friends decided to make that her second career.  She then earned a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology at the University of North Florida, her Elementary Certification Grades 1-6, and Gifted Endorsement.  She began teaching full time in 2002 for grades 2-4 as well as gifted students, was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 2011, and later received the "Elevating Excellence Award" from the school district.  She loved teaching and thrived on meeting the diverse needs of her students each day.  She retired from Wadsworth Elementary in 2017. In retirement she enjoyed quilting, sewing, playing card games, travelling, and spending time with her dog, Cooper.  She was regularly involved in "Quilts of Valor", handmaking quilts that are awarded to a Service Member or Veteran who has been touched by war, and "Dress a Girl," an initiative that provides handmade dresses to girls in need across the globe.  Above all, spending time with family was her greatest joy.

Beverly is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Thompson.  Beverly will be sadly missed by her son, Brett A. Thompson; sister, LuAnn Vesy (Rick); brother, Albert P. Mangin, Jr. (DeeAnn); fur baby, Cooper; and other extended family and friends.

In memory of Beverly, please consider a donation in her name to the American Cancer Society.
