Beverly Hearne Davies, age 81, passed away on March 25, 2026. She was born on October 12, 1944, to Kenneth and Arline (Libby) Farrell in Lockport, New York. Beverly’s father, Kenneth, was a pioneer in food research and moved the family to different parts of the country on a regular basis-perhaps this is what sparked Beverly’s love for traveling which she continued pursuing right up until her passing. Beverly’s mother was a nurse, which likely started her down the path of caring for other people with her specialty becoming elementary age children.
Beverly graduated from Manhasset High School in New York, continuing to Averett Junior College in Virginia, she transferred and graduated from the University of Massachusetts. She was then recruited to teach school in Long Beach, California. That is where she experienced School Counselors for the first time. This lit a passion in her, and she knew that this would become her professional mission in life. So, she went on and earned her Master’s in Guidance and Counseling at North Texas State University. She worked a short stint in Dallas, Texas before exploring different job opportunities, including two years teaching in Puerto Rico where her son Randy Hearne was born in1971.
Beverly was offered a counseling job in the Volusia County school system where she was to start a pilot program for elementary guidance (one of her proudest and enduring accomplishments); this allowed her to move up the career ladder and for the next 40 years she pursued her dreams of developing an elementary guidance program for Volusia County as Guidance Supervisor for Volusia County. This county-level position took her away from the kids she loved but allowed her to help more people/kids by helping to nurture and grow guidance and counseling county wide. She was so proud of the many awards that she won personally at the county and State level; But she was even prouder of her counselors and their successes throughout the county and state levels. "Cheer" became the tool that she helped create that allowed Volusia County Counselor’s success to spread to other counties in Florida and help thousands of children navigate their growing years (Care Bears).
In retirement Beverly became a travel agent and helped others explore the world while also traveling frequently herself, eventually visiting all but one of the continents on earth (Antarctica). Her passion was cruising….and no matter what physical limitations she had she was going to make that cruise!... This is where she fell in love with her Zinger, her small scooter that gave her access to the world.
Beverly enjoyed family and friends, meeting new people, traveling and being a travel agent, raising cocker spaniels for show, boating (and even lived on one for several years), Halifax Cruise Club, USS&PS, VTO/VEA retired, snorkeling, the Bahamas, scalloping, dancing and summers in Maine.
On Beverly’s 80th birthday, she had the foresight to have a Celebration of Life, which was attended by family and friends who spent the day talking about her life and sharing stories that meant the most to them.
Beverly was married twice. First, to John Hearne of Dallas, Texas, and shortly afterwards, Randy was born. She later married Al Earnest Davies who included his family of three children, Al Davies Jr. (Deceased); Daryl Davies, now with his wife Taunia and kids Jalen and Hunter Davies; and Lisa Davies Burgess, now with son, Eli Burgess. Beverly’s last 5 years were spent with Tony Fortune and his sons Nicholas and Stephen. Tony traveled the world with her and looked after her every need right up to her passing.
Beverly is survived by her brother, Rick Farrell and his wife Lisa (Benji); her son, Randy Hearne with wife Jackie; granddaughters, Briley Hearne and fiancé Whit Hayes; Danielle Sullivan, husband Shelby, their children Hannah, Sonny, Alex and Conner; TJ and wife Chelsea and their children Maddie, Remi, Aubry and Haylen; Lisa Lee, with husband Tim, brought Christopher and Keelan into Beverly’s life to complete the circle.
Beverly was blessed with a massive circle of friends and made new ones easily. Donna and Jay Bushnell, Carolyn and Scott Martin, Treva Lewis, Randy and Nancy Ludwig were her “Forever Friends” as well as countless other neighbors (Randy), boaters, counselors and friends that she was lucky enough to meet in her lifetime.
Her Memorial Service will be at 10AM Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Lohman Funeral Home, Ormond Beach located at 733 West Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, Florida 32174. Scattering will follow at RiverGrille on the Tomoka River, also in Ormond Beach.
In lieu of flowers, Beverly requested that donations be made to the Halifax Humane Society in her name, or another animal shelter close to you would be appreciated.
