Betty J. Zenkovsky, 87, passed away on January 4, 2015.
Betty was born on March 6, 1927 in Mankato, Minnesota, the eldest of three children born to William and Sarah Bubbers. She resided at the Pendleton Club in Daytona Beach, Florida from 1983 until July, 2014 when she entered LaCasa Memory Care facility on Merritt Island. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Serge Zenkovsky, a Russian historian and writer. Together, they translated the five volumes of the Nikonian Chronicle from Russian to English.
Betty studied at Augustana College, University of Michigan, Indiana University, and Radcliff. Her concentrations were Russian and Serbo-Croatian languages and literature. She enjoyed a career teaching and researching at Vanderbilt and Stetson. Betty was a long time member of the Halifax Yacht Club, AAUW, DAR and a number of professional organizations She had sung in the choir of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
Betty is survived by her brother William C. Bubbers, nieces Linda and Susan, and nephew, Bill.
Funeral services for Betty will be held at 1PM Friday, January 9, 2015. Betty will be interred at the Novo Diveevo Russian Orthodox Convent and Cemetery located at 100 Smith Road, Nanuet, NY. 10954. No viewing or service is planned locally.
