Betty W. Thomas passed away peacefully at her Ormond Beach home surrounded by her loving family on November 23, 2013. She would have been 96 on Christmas Day.

Betty was born in Byrnedale, PA to Merlin and Isabelle Weed on December 25, 1917. She lived in Weedville, PA and spent her formative years in Punxsutawney, PA. After marrying her true love, David R. Thomas, Jr., they relocated to Tallahassee, FL so Dave could pursue his Doctorate Degree at Florida State University. They later settled in Perry, FL, where Betty opened a private kindergarten. In 1972, Betty and Dave moved to Ormond Beach. It was here that she successfully opened and operated Betty's Young Fashions in Bellair Plaza, for many years. Betty loved to travel, play bridge and cheer on her beloved Penn State Nittany Lions. She and Dave traveled extensively in the United States in their motor home, including Alaska and Mexico. They also enjoyed traveling over seas and enjoyed numerous visits to Europe. Dave served on the USS Indiana during WWII. Betty and Dave attended the reunions for many years.

Betty was a member of The Eastern Stars, Red Hat Society, the Women's Club, the Garden Club, The Ormond Historical Society, and numerous Prayer Circles and 3 bridge clubs throughout the years. Betty's passion was her family and her numerous friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, David R. Thomas, Jr. and her brother, Bob Weed. She will be sadly missed by her two sons: David R. Thomas III and his wife Sue; D. Douglas Thomas and his wife Sally; and by her eight grandchildren: David Raymond (Kerry) Thomas IV; Heather Thomas Koslin; Kristen Thomas Pirkey; David Randall Thomas; Jason (Roxanne) Thomas; April (Brad) Cole; D. Douglas (Mykalann) Thomas, Jr.; and Tadd Thomas and his fiance, Jenna Gerken; and by her 12 great-grandchildren. Betty is survived by her brother, Don Weed and her numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, December 2, 2013 from 5-7pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 11am at First United Methodist of Ormond Beach, 336 N. Halifax Drive. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/ Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
