Betty Jean Turner (Billings) passed away Tuesday, October 17th to be with her Lord. Betty was born in Evansville, Indiana and later moved to Columbus, Georgia where she spent most of her early years. In 1959, she and her family moved to the Daytona Beach area. She then attended nurses training and was employed at Halifax Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse. There she specialized in psychiatric nursing and came to be known as "Sarge" in the unit. She and her husband Bill later moved to the St. Augustine area where she continued her nursing career at Flagler Hospital. Upon retirement, they returned to the Ormond Beach area to be closer to friends and family. Betty was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church and loved singing with the Central Baptist Seniors for many years. Betty also enjoyed her many years of volunteering for multiple community activities, through which she developed many lifelong friendships.
Betty Jean was preceded by her husband, Willie Hardy Turner, her sisters Jeanette Phillips and Nina Daugherty and her brother Carl Billings. She is survived by her children, Patricia Auman, Columbus, Ga., Steven Thomaston, Venice, Fl., Debra Moulis and Donald Turner both of Ormond Beach, her grandchildren, Gretchin Priest of Ormond Beach, Michael Vedder of Gainesville, Jeffery Vedder, Jacksonville and Chris and Kelly Auman, and her great grandchildren, Kourtney and Colby Priest of Ormond Beach and Amelia Vedder of Gainesville.
A Funeral Service will be held for Betty on Friday, October 20th at Central Baptist Church, Daytona Beach at 11:00 am. Visitation will be at Lohman Funeral Home Daytona today, Thursday, October 19th between the hours of 6:00pm and 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Betty's name to Central Baptist Church or Halifax Health Hospice.
