Betty Schuster Thompson, 90, of New Smyrna Beach, FL, went home to be with the Lord she loved so much, on October 24, 2023.  She passed peacefully, after a brief illness, while sleeping in the comfort of home with family close at hand.  Betty was proceeded in death by her husband of 66 years, John ("Bo") Franklin Thompson Jr.  She took great pride in their 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.  Betty and John's children are John and Kathy Thompson of Brunswick, GA, David and Jeanine Thompson of Robbinsville, NC, Randall and Sue Thompson of New Tazewell, TN, Nancy and Robert Grooms of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Matthew and Meridith Thompson of Santa Rosa Beach, FL. Betty is also survived by her brother and his wife, Ernest and Vicki Schuster of Savannah, GA.

Betty was born on November 29, 1932, in Savannah, GA, where she grew up the oldest of four children.  As a girl, Betty was an active Girl Scout and an avid dancer.  During the time of the Korean Conflict, Betty volunteered at the USO where she met John "Bo" Thompson.  They were married on October 3, 1953, in Savannah, GA.

During her life-long service and devotion to her family, Betty also held a variety of jobs and owned her own business.  Betty was always involved in church, singing in the choir, and serving on an assortment of committees. Her life of selfless service was punctuated by decades of membership in the International Order of The King's Daughters and Sons, an interdenominational, intergenerational, Christian service organization in which she held a multitude of leadership positions from local to international level.  Betty led a full and active life touching many hearts for eternity and is now resting in peace. Services for Betty include Visitation on Monday, October 30, 2023, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Lohman Funeral Home in Port Orange, FL., Funeral Service on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at 11 am, at Space Coast Baptist Church in New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168, and Interment on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, following funeral (~12:30 pm) at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery in Edgewater, FL 32132.
