Betty Hershberger died to this life February 23, 2015. She was born the second of four daughters to Mary Ruth Walsh and Richard Leon Walsh on June 30, 1926 in Rantoul, IL. She married Rev. Merrill George Hershberger on January 25, 1946 in Rantoul, IL. Betty has been a resident of the Daytona Beach Area since 1976.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters: Mary Brosius, Fran Whitcomb, and Ruth Yarber; her daughter Rev. Christine Hershberger Miner, and son-in law Dr. Larry Teter.

She is survived by her son Dr. Charles Hershberger and wife Marla, her daughter Kathryn Teter, son-in law Rev. Robert Miner; grandchildren DebE Martin (h David), Kathryn Litton (h Thomas), Mardi Stewart (h Troy), Dr. Doug Hershberger (w Yifat), and Jaime Hershberger; 7 great-grandchildren, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and many loved ones including her pet cat, Charlie.

Betty was a professional flutist having served as principal flutist in all of the following groups: Peoria, (IL) Symphony Orchestra, the Peoria Municipal Band, the Daytona Beach Community College/Community Symphonic Band, and the Daytona Beach Civic Orchestra. She taught music students in Illinois and Florida. Both her daughters Kathryn and Christie played flute with her.

She was also an Administrative Assistant to the President of Heath Candy Company and to the Halifax Hospital Mental Health Unit. She worked alongside her pastor husband throughout his ministry in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Her love was of music, her passion was her family, her strength was in her faith, her delight was anything Disney, her entertainment was Shirley Temple movies.

A visitation is scheduled at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, February 27, at Daytona Memorial Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at 9:30. A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church, 326 South Palmetto Avenue, Daytona Beach, on Saturday, February 28, at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. David Troxler will officiate at both services.
