Obituary

Betty (Gabbert) Burdette 85 of Daytona Beach FL passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday January 27 2012 at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Port Orange. The family will receive friends on Monday; January 30th between the hours of 5-7:30 pm at Baggett-Summers Funeral Home 736 S. Beach Street Daytona Beach. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday January 31st at 11:00 am at Central Baptist Church 152 Fairview Ave. Daytona Beach.

Betty was born February 26 1926 in St. Petersburg FL and grew up in Dunbar WV; she graduated from Dunbar H.S. and attended Mason College of Music in Charleston WV. She married Les Burdette in 1946. They then relocated to Philadelphia PA where she worked as a secretary for Lincoln Electric. They later relocated to Georgia in 1972 where they called Hazlehurst and Adel home. Betty was the pianist for the First Baptist Church in Adel where she played for several cantatas. She was a volunteer for the Ladies Auxiliary in Adel and Hazlehurst she volunteered for the Republic Party in Georgia and enjoyed keeping up with current events in politics. She was an avid walker and in her spare time she enjoyed playing bridge.

Les and Betty then made Daytona Beach their home after they retired in 1984. They became active members of the Central Baptist Church of Daytona Beach. She was the pianist for 12 years with the Jubilees where they entertained at many nursing homes.

Betty Jane was preceded by her parents Rev. Melvin and Sweet Gabbert and a brother John Gabbert. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 yrs. Les Burdette Daytona Beach their daughter that they had after sixteen years of marriage Julie Blais and her husband Mark Daytona Beach sister Lois A. Escue Daytona Beach a niece Susan Stetler Daytona Beach two granddaughters Shelly Blais Olsen Daytona Beach and Christa Blais Fairmont WV three great-grandchildren and several other nieces nephews and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler; 3800 Woodbriar Trail Port Orange FL or the Central Baptist Church. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond.
