Betty R. Banks' Obituary
Betty G. Moore, 95, Port Orange, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. She was born in Thomaston, Georgia, to Elizabeth (Beth) and Richard Gunther on December19, 1921.
She moved from Georgia in 1940 to Washington, DC where she met and married Robert Burton Moore in 1942. They raised four children and after a career in federal government, Betty began her 2nd career in the Prince George's County School System as the much-loved Secretary at Greendale Elementary. This change allowed her more time with family and an opportunity to pursue many interests. She was a skilled seamstress and adventurous cook.
Upon retirement in 1986, she relocated permanently to Treasure Isle Estates in Port Orange and her much loved beach. Other hobbies included: crossword puzzles, traveling, reading and spending time with those she loved.
She is predeceased by her husband, Robert Burton Moore, Sr., her son C. Neil Moore and her dear friend Muriel Matheny. She is survived by a daughter Pamela Moore Adams, Groveland, FL and two sons Charles T. Moore, Port Orange, FL and Ronald L. Moore, Berryville, VA. She is also survived by grandchildren Scott McGhee (Sasinan "Oui"), Groveland, FL and Paul Lanham, Longwood, FL; and grandchildren Zachery Scott, Codey Robert (US Navy, Vella Cruz) and Savannah Rose Lanham; and, Anthony Nauwa and Amber Maysa McGhee, both of Groveland, FL
Our family expresses their sincere appreciation to Orlino & Donna Flordeliz, Edgar & Danna Budanio and their families, also to Flora, Jovelyn and Anita for the loving care, joyous experiences, songs and laughter provided to Betty for the two years she was a happy resident at Manila Home Care, Port Orange.
The family is also grateful for the compassion and care provided by Halifax Health Hospice, Ormond Beach (Jean, Tammy & Jo) during the final steps of our much-loved Mother's journey home.
Lohman Funeral Home, Port Orange, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty's memory to Hospice Foundation of America or to Bright Focus Foundation to support Alzheimer's disease Research, websites available.
