Obituary

Bettie Adele Johnson-Norwood 86 of Ormond Beach passed away March 20 2013. Visitation will be held Monday March 25 2013 from 1-3pm and 5-7pm at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond. Funeral Service honoring Bettie will be held Tuesday March 26 2013 at 11am at Tomoka United Methodist Church 1000 Old Tomoka Rd. Ormond Beach FL 32174.
Bettie was born in Pompano Beach Fl. Her parents Ralph and Minnie (Yowell) Yelvington moved to the Daytona area when Bettie was 3 years old. Bettie graduated from Mainland HS in 1944. She married John W. Johnson and started her family of 10 children. Bettie and John owned Johnson Burger in South Daytona. Bettie worked as a waitress for 43 years at many popular and famous restaurants including Broadway Bali Bali Jr. The Kapok Tree Plato's Julian's My Mother's Place Joe and Mary's and others. She was a wonderful waitress and will be remembered affectionately by her customers and fellow restaurant staff.
When she wasn't working Bettie loved to shop! She was very giving and generous to her family and friends mostly shopping for others always putting herself last. She was a great country dancer even enticing her husband Thomas Norwood to dance with her. Bettie enjoyed playing cards with her family particularly canasta and pinochle. She also enjoyed aerobics. Bettie was a long time member of Christ United Methodist Church and had been a Treasurer there. She loved animals always having cats in her home and feeding the birds and squirrels in her yard. Bettie's family was her main passion. She loved traveling to visit them. She had a huge heart loving her family immensely.
Bettie will be sadly missed by her husband of 8 years Thomas Norwood. She was the love of his life. Also mourning her loss are her daughters: Bettie Carter (Bill) Donna McRee (Fred) Billie Sue Kelly (Linden) Patricia Bonnema (Don) and Nancy Johnson (Ginger); and her sons: Richard Johnson (Nancy) Robert Johnson and stepson Anthony D. Norwood (Anita). She is survived by her brothers Jack Yelvington and Jim Yelvington and sisters Judy Ogle (Jasper) and Connie Craddock. She will be missed by numerous grandchildren great-grandchildren great-great- grandchildren nieces nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents by her husband John William Johnson husband John M. Cade by her brothers Ralph "Buddy" Yelvington Jr Henry "Butch" Arrington Richard "Skipper" Arrington by her sisters Barbara Zimmerman and Pat Schoonmaker and by her children John William Johnson Jr Sandra Hughes and Jo Ann Woodward.
