Remembering Dr. Benno Price Fritz
Ben "Doc" Fritz passed on February 4, 2016. He was the son of Virginia and Michael Fritz. He was born in Alpena, Michigan December 2nd 1961.
Ben was a leader and high achiever in the music community as a composer, conductor and performer. He served as the director of bands at George Washington University for the past 27 years. He conducted and performed throughout the United States, Europe and South Africa.
Ben earned his PhD in music education from George Mason University. In his formative years, he was the trombone section leader in the Michigan State University Marching Band, led the musical opening of Disney's Epcot Center, and performed with Ray Charles. At Novi High School he was drum major and won the John Phillip Sousa Louis Armstrong Awards for excellence in Music.
Ben served as guest conductor for top military bands in Washington D.C. and arranged music for the Boston Pops Orchestra.
In addition to his parents Ben is survived by his wife Alice, son Harrison Fritz, brother, Michael Anthony Fritz, and sisters Liza Deck and Jessica Fritz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at The Basilica of St. Paul in Daytona Beach on Monday, February 8 at 11am with a visitation one hour prior to mass. Ben requested donations be made to YouCaring.com/DocFritzMusic.
