Obituary

Benedict (Ben) Peter Talluto, 90, of Port Orange, Florida, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 with family by his side.  He was born June 29,1933 in St. Louis, Missouri to Salvatore and Filocia (Flora) Talluto.  Ben shared many fond memories of his high school years at Christian Brothers College Military High School where he received multiple honors and awards in leadership, academics and sports, graduating as a Captain. Always a standout athlete, especially in baseball and football (for which he received an offer to play professionally), his love of baseball made him a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan. Furthering his education at St. Louis University, he earned his degree in finance.  The highlight of his life was on September 4, 1955 when he married Margaret Rose Finazzo, who has been his devoted wife for the last 68 years. Together, they moved to Port Orange, Florida in 1960.  Ben was employed at General Electric and met many lifelong friends and following that, he used his experience in finance to become a successful Allstate Insurance Agent. He loved living in Port Orange and between 1974-2019 he generously offered his time and financial experience as a city councilman for 12 years, serving as Vice Mayor for 4 of those years.  During this time he also served as a board member for the Community Redevelopment Area.  Spearheading the City's effort to create a cornerstone fountain at  Dunlawton and Ridgewood, the city then surprised Ben by dedicating the fountain to him for all of his service to the community, naming it TALLUTO FOUNTAIN.  Ben was one of the founding families for the groundbreaking of Epiphany Catholic Church where he and his family attended. Receiving an Honorary Life Membership with the Knights of Columbus, he proudly served for 60 years.  Some of his hobbies included fishing, playing poker at The Daytona Kennel Club and watching baseball.  But, nothing meant more to him than spending time with his family and sharing stories of his Sicilian traditions.  He is survived by his loving wife Margaret Rose Talluto, his 4 children, Flora (Russ) Irving, Salvatore (Sandy) Talluto, Joseph Talluto, and Mary (DaLynn) Talluto, his younger brother Nicholas (Diane) Talluto, 4 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and multiple nephews and nieces.
