Palm Coast

Obituary

Bea Walter, a resident of Palm Coast since 1982, died Wednesday March 7, 2018 at Sabal Palms Assisted Living complex.  She was 95.

Bea was born on January 17, 1923 in Oakmont, Pennsylvania to Alfred and Matilda Honke.  After graduating from Springdale High School and the Allegheny Valley Nursing School, Bea came to New York City to work as a registered nurse at Lenox Hill Hospital.  Her goal was to "seek adventure".

Following her move to New York, Bea met her husband, George Walter, at a rooftop dance at a New York YMCA; they were married for 50 years.  The couple began their married life in a 4 th floor walkup on East 72 nd Street in the city before moving to Ridgewood, NJ.

She worked at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, New Jersey and Bergen Pines in New Jersey, specializing in geriatrics and drug rehabilitation.  After her 1982 retirement, Bea and her husband, who retired from his position as an accountant for Texaco, moved to Palm Coast.  He died April 4, 1999.

Over the years, Bea lived in a number of Palm Coast areas, including Grand Haven.  She moved to the Las Palmas Independent Living development five years ago and recently moved into the newly opened Sabal Palms senior complex.

Bea was a longtime member of the Flagler County Art League; her work, mostly portraits, wildlife and landscapes, won multiple awards.  Her artwork was never sold.  Instead she chose to give them to family and friends.

She was also an original member of the "Nifty Niners" golf group at Palm Harbor Golf Club, an organization still in existence.  Local volunteer activities included work for Florida Hospital Hospice and the church as a Eucharistic minister.

She is survived by her four children, Dr. Jane Walter of Palm Coast, Connie Angelo of Kankakee, IL, Gretchen Andersen of Ringwood, NJ and George Walter of Modena, NY; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Ziolkowski, Alexander and Benjamin Angelo, and Andrew, George and Dymond Walter; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George and by two of their children, Laura Ann Walter and Frederick Andrew Walter.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday April 7, 2018 at Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church, 915 N. Central Ave., Flagler Beach, FL 32136.
