Barney M. Bell, 75 died on July 7, 2016 at home surrounded by his family, after succumbing to his battle with cancer. Barney was born in Seville, FL on September 23, 1941. Barney was the first born of L.Z. and Katherine Bell of Seville and moved to the DeLeon Springs area in 1968. Barney served in the U.S. Army serving one year overseas in Thailand. After leaving the Army, he made his living as a test equipment engineer for Sparton Electronics, of De Leon Springs, where he worked for 38 years. Barney is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Janet Bell of De Leon Springs; his two sons Rusty Ford and Steven D. Bell both of De Leon Springs, two daughters; Sherry Lynch (Steve) of Camden, SC. Sandy Taylor of Deland; three grandchildren; Kristi Ford of Quitman, GA .,Tiffany Hale (Shawn) of De Leon Springs and Vikki Smelser (Casey) of Warren, MI; five great grandchildren; Riley, Mason, CY, Brayden and Brycen; one brother James Ray Bell (Judy) of Edgewater, three sisters; Frances McLauchlin (Robert), Abbie Thayer (Robert) of Lakeland and Harriette Smith (Glen) of Seville and one aunt; Abbie Hall of Lakeland, sister in law; Geraldine Bell of Lake Como. Barney was preceded in death by his mother and father and one brother Carey Bell of Lake Como.
Barney loved to watch and read westerns, having completed over 2,000 titles his favorite was Louie L'amour series. Barney also loved to play video games on his computer, and was an avid computer programer until a stroke took his sight. Barney loved building things and tinkering around in his garage. Barney was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a friend loved by all, and will be greatly missed. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Lohman Funeral Home Deland.
