Barbara Sharkey

February 7, 1934 - January 30, 2023

Barbara (Vassallo) Sharkey, 88, passed away in Orange City, Florida. Barbara was an only child born to Nicholas and Adele Vassallo in Ossining, New York. Living in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, Barbara and her parents were faithful members of Holy Name of Mary Congregation. Barbara attended Holy Name of Mary School and then Mary Immaculate High School.

When Barbara was 18, she met Michael Sharkey and they married on October 16, 1955. Michael preceded her in death in 2003. They have two daughters, Laurie (spouse, Satar) Sheth, Linda (spouse, Keith) Terry and grandson Jesse Michael Terry.

After school Barbara worked as an X-Ray technician and then a stay at home mom while the girls were little. She worked at Barkers, and then went on to become a school bus driver at Croton-on-Hudson school district with her husband Mike. After retirement they moved to Ormond Beach, Florida. The Catholic Church was very important to Barbara and she attended Prince of Peace in Ormond Beach. In 2022, Barbara moved to John Knox Village in Orange City, Florida.

Barbara enjoyed camping at country music festivals, being a member of the Red Hatters Club and her bowling league.

Barbara will be laid to rest with her husband at the Veterans Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at a later date. Donations in her name can be made to AdventHealth Hospice Care, 1360 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, FL. 32763.
