Barbara L. Opacki, 79, formerly of Melrose, MA, peacefully passed away on August 31st, 2023 in Daytona Beach Shores, FL, surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with several health ailments.
Barbara L. Opacki was born on April 14th, 1944 to Bob and Audrey Darrow in Zanesville, OH. After Barbara graduated from Zanesville High school in 1962, she received bachelor's and master's degrees from Ohio State University.
After graduation, she worked as a teacher before finding her career passion in the field of political campaign politics for over 30 years. Barbara was passionate about electing candidates that would make a difference in the lives of all.
In 1973 she married Richard Opacki of Melrose, MA. Barbara and Richard went on to have one child together, Robert, and helped raise Robyn Opacki of Maine from Mr. Opacki's first marriage and Jeannie O'Connor formerly of Dedham. Barbara semi-retired to the Daytona Beach area in 2004 with Mr. Opacki where she continued to manage political campaigns until officially retiring in 2008. While retired, Barbara and Richard traveled frequently within and outside the United States and passionately enjoyed time with niece Katrina "Tina" Taylor, great nephew and great niece Gideon and Gracie Taylor of the Daytona Beach area.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Audrey & Bob, step fathers Kenneth Long and Alan Gerald, sisters Elizabeth and Jane, and brother Richard who died in infancy. She is survived by her husband, Richard, and her son, Robert. A Celebration of Life party is to take place at the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor on October 1st from 4pm-8pm.
