Aurora M. Villaflor

October 25, 1929 – January 20, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Aurora Marigza Villaflor, 93, of Ponce Inlet.  She died peacefully in her sleep at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, January 20, 2023.  Aurora was born on October 25 to the late Pio Gregorio and Ines (Mangaser) Marigza in Caba, La Union, in the northern region of the Philippines.  Aurora was the second of four children in her family and grew up during a difficult time, the Second World War, but she never let the hardships she faced define her. Instead, she lived her life with grace and determination, always putting her family first. She was a kind and compassionate woman who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She lived with Parkinson's disease in her last years, but still found the courage to live each day to the fullest.

Aurora chose nursing as her profession and together with her late husband, Dr. Manuel Villaflor, raised their family of five girls on a strong foundation of Christian values and a good education.  On settling in the Daytona Beach area in 1973, they joined Highlands Presbyterian Church in Holly Hill.  After moving to Ponce Inlet, they began attending First Presbyterian Church of Daytona Beach and became members in December 2004.  Aurora enjoyed her many friendships with church members cultivated through the years while attending Sunday church services, bible study and participating in community outreach.  Aurora's commitment to the church is matched by her love for gardening.  She took every chance she got to tend to her garden, always proud to show off the latest blooming bromeliad.  She won several awards including first place in the Council of Garden Clubs of the Halifax District for her Blue Tango (Aechmea bromeliad) . She attributed her longevity to her Moringa trees, as she carefully collected the leaves to make tea or add them to her favorite dishes.  She also enjoyed traveling with her family, whether it be abroad or close by in the area. She was a skillful seamstress and lovingly sewed all of her daughter's wedding dresses for their special day.  Aurora's daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will cherish the memories they have of her, and her legacy will live on through them.  They will always miss her, but she will be forever alive in their hearts.

Aurora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 57 years, Manuel Villaflor, her sister Eufemia and brother, Ruperto.

Survivors include her sister, Salvacion, daughters Donna, Cheryl, Esther, Fay, Regina, grandchildren Alpha, Mei, Katherine, Chris, John-Paul, great-grandchildren Georgia, Nathaniel, Josephine, Antonia, Aksel, Isadora, Miles, Oliver, Margaret, and Owen and many extended family members and friends.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 from 9am-10am at First Presbyterian Church, 620 South Grandview Avenue, Daytona Beach with the Memorial service from 10am-11am at the same location. Interment will follow the service at 12pm at Daytona Memorial Park South, 1425 Bellevue Avenue, Daytona Beach. Reception to follow at Lohman's Funeral Home Daytona at the same address.
