IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Audrey Beatrice
Snell
March 11, 1930 – December 24, 2024
Snell, Audrey J.
Audrey Beatrice (Johnson) Snell, of Daytona Beach, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at home on Christmas Eve, at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Muriel Johnson; her spouse of 61 years, Walter W. Snell; her daughter, Rhonda K. Snell; and her grandson, Evan W. Snell; siblings Fred Johnson and Betty Holt. She is survived by her sons, Joseph Bryan (Kim), and Walter John (Sonya); grandchildren Bryan Snell, Tyler Snell (Mia), Lauren Snell, Sydney Diedrick (Jake), Jayce Wilson & Brooke Munger (Cody); and great-grandchildren Theodore Snell, Harper Gaboury-Smith and Blake Munger, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Audrey was born on March 11, 1930, in Niagara Falls, New York. After high school, she worked as a bank teller until 1954 when she moved to Daytona Beach-- solely because the name included "Beach"-- which is what she wanted rather than the cold winters of upstate New York. After applying at several banks, she was told she needed to be a resident for at least 2 years because so many new hires only stayed through the winter months then left. After working at the Daytona Center for the Blind for 2 years, she finally landed her job as a bank teller on Seabreeze Blvd. There she caught the eye of a tall, lanky young lawyer who waited for her window to be available to conduct his business. He finally mustered the courage to ask her out and the rest was history-- Audrey and Walter were married on June 29, 1957. She became a domestic engineer raising her 3 children, but was also active in the Ortona PTA, Attorneys' Wives Club, MOAS Museum Guild, Guardian ad Litem and gathering toys and school supplies for Baptist Missions.
Throughout their lives, Audrey and Walter traveled extensively throughout the U.S., including numerous RV trips to Alaska; Australia, New Zealand, Europe, England, Turkey, Iceland, Tanzania, and Thailand.
Audrey was known by all as the most compassionate, kind, and giving person right down to her soul. She appreciated every bit of God's creation from a lonely cloud to a beautiful sunset, to a bird fluttering about, to the innocent expressions of her grandchildren.
The Bible verse that comforted her most was "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also ." (John 14:3). Audrey is now at peace and reunited with Walter, as she often expressed was what she wanted most. She will be forever in our hearts and memories as the most beloved and treasured mother/grandmother/friend as ever existed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Halifax Historical Society, 252 South Beach Street, Daytona Beach, Florida 32118.
