Obituary

Audrey Batcher Sewell, a long-time resident of the Port Orange area passed away on Monday, May 4th in her home in Pickwick Village.

Born in 1921 to George and Stella Batcher in Allegheny County, PA, Audrey was a proud member of the Army from 1942 to 1945. Audrey served her country during World War II as a nurse and attained the rank of Sergeant. It was during this time that she met and married her husband, Herschel L Sewell.

Upon returning from the war, Audrey became a grade school teacher for many years in Port Orange. She served as the Women's Army Corps (WAC) National President from 1986-1988 and remained active with the WAC until her death. Audrey was also the first woman to be Post Commander at Post #3282 of the VFW in Port Orange.

Audrey loved to travel, taking trips and driving her large RV well into her 90's.

She is survived by her grand-daughter, Danielle Coffman and her grandson, David Rand in addition to her great grand-daughters Clara Coffman and Stella Rand.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be presented to VFW Post #3282, 5810 S Williamson Blvd, Port Orange, FL 32128.

Services will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, May 19th at Grace Episcopal Church in Port Orange and she will be interred in a family plot at Daytona Memorial Park. Condolences may be shared with the family through this online guestbook.
