Ashley T. ""Joe"" Elliott 86 passed away Thursday April 27 2012 while under Hospice Care after a short battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife and daughter. A Visitation will be held Friday May 4th 2012 from 10:00am to 11:00 am with a Funeral Service at 11:00am at Baggett and Summers Funeral Home 736 S. Beach Street Daytona Beach FL. Full Military Honors at Daytona Memorial Park will immediately follow the service.
Joe served in the Army during World War II stationed in England France & Germany. When he was honorably discharged he went back home to Baltimore MD and married his long time sweetheart Dottie on January 12 1946. They had a daughter Rita and relocated to Florida. Joe worked for the Daytona Beach Police Department from 1955 and retired as a Lieutenant in 1977. Joe and Dot travelled together for years to other countries on many cruises and drove their motor home to Alaska. He belonged to the Fraternal Order of Police and The Retired Police and Firefighters Association. He was very proud of being a Police Officer. He looked forward to every retired Police dinner to see old friends and was especially proud of his new DAB RETIRED Police cap and shirt given to him by Police Chief Chitwood.
Joe was predeceased by his parents Paul and Gertrude Elliott; his brother Dave; his sister Pauline and his loving dog Paddy. Those left to cherish his memory are his wonderful wife of 66 years Dot; his beloved daughter and caregiver Rita (Jim); his grandson John Lennie Evans (Heather); his two great grandsons Joseph and Jamie.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations can be made to Halifax Humane Society or Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia Flagler.
A special thanks to Dot and Joe's doctor Ed Milcasky for his help and caring nature also to the staff of Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia Flagler (Edgewater).
