Obituary

Arthur Uhsemann 87 of Port Orange passed away on Monday June 8 2009 at Twin Acres Rest Home. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday June 12 2009 at 10 am at Lohman Funeral Home 1201 Dunlawton Ave. Port Orange FL with interment to immediately follow at Daytona Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 10 am on Friday June 12 at Lohman Funeral Home. Arthur was born on May 30 1922 in Bronx NY. He graduated from Samuel Gompers Vocational High School as an electrician. Arthur was in the Navy Reserves from July 1939 to January 1941. He joined the Navy at 17 and served in active duty from January 1941 through October 1945 after which he was honorably discharged with the rank of electrician's mate first class. The majority of his work history was with the NY Telephone Company where he began as a switchman and retired in July 1978 in management after 32 years of dedicated service. He met the love of his life Susan Johnstone at a USO dance in 1946. They married on September 27 1947 and this blessed union lasted nearly 62 years. He was a devoted compassionate and humble man who endeared himself to his family and all who knew him. His heart beat was to serve others and this flowed out of his life as a result of his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Arthur was a member of the Daytona Beach Christian and Missionary Alliance Church for 30 years where he participated in the ministry there as an elder as a member of the governing board and as a sound man besides being faithful in attendance and tithing. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents Sophie and Arthur Uhsemann and his wife Susan who died April 19 2009. Arthur is survived by his daughter Linda Thompson (Drury) of West Jefferson NC; grandson John Thompson; granddaughter Victoria Stevens; and great-grandson Austin Dru Stevens.
