Arthur William Le Bel passed away peacefully at home with his family on May 19 2010. Born on January 13 1929 to Rita H. (Laravee) and Arthur O. Le Bel in Beverly Massachusetts where he spent his childhood. He joined the Navy at a very young age and served his Country during WWII. He then joined the Coast Guard for a tour and spent time fighting communist gorillas in the Philippines and aboard a light ship above the Arctic Circle earning him a position in The Order of the Blue Nose for sailors who have crossed the Arctic Circle. Arthur's heart belonged to the air and helicopters so he spent the rest of his twenty year military career in the Air Force where he received the Airman's Medal of Honor in Montana for his heroism in saving lives during a natural disaster the Bronze Star for his two tours in Viet Nam as the Chief of an air rescue unit and many other medals and citations. His life was always about helping others. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant and then fulfilled his family's dream of moving to Florida. Mr. Le Bel began his second career with the Volusia County Sheriffs Department setting up their Aviation Unit and building and flying the first Air One Helicopter. His favorite memories during this career were of the times he flew patrol or over the Speed Way during a race or even during an emergency call for EVAC. He also spent quite a bit of time flying fixed wing taking his family Island hopping in Hawaii or to the Bahamas or Washington DC; wherever he could go! His life was full of so many travels and experiences and there was very little he wouldn't try. Besides flying he sailed built a boat had an angel fish farm painted spent time making flies and fly fishing in Montana made wine and beer and could fix anything he was a great mechanic. The one constant in Mr. Le Bel's life was his great love for his wife Bobi who predeceased him in 1998. His other loves were his family. He is survived by his daughter and her husband Suzi and Jay (Cuddy) daughter Linda (Le Bel) grandson Adam (Cuddy) and granddaughter Jessica (John Olson) step-granddaughter Courtney (Cuddy) and five great-grandchildren.
