Anthony Gregory Girolami (Tony) of Ponce Inlet FL was born on February 11 1921 to Charles and Lina Girolami (Nutini) in Chicago IL. Tony passed away on August 23 2013 at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness at the age of 92. . A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday August 29th between the hours of 5:00-7:00 with a prayer service at 7:00pm at Lohman Funeral Home 1201 Dunlawton Avenue Port Orange FL. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Church of the Epiphany at 201 Lafayette Street Port Orange FL. on Friday August 30th at 10:00AM. Tony lived in Ponce Inlet for the past 27 years after retiring from his position as Clerk of the Probate Court of Cook County IL in 1986. He also served as the Alderman of the 28th ward in Chicago IL from 1959 through 1961 and 28th Ward Committeeman during the 1960's and 1970's. As a high school senior Tony was named as the Chicago All City Quarterback in 1938. He also was elected to the Chicago High School All Stars Team by the Hearst Newspapers and played against the Los Angeles High School All Stars in California. Tony received 2 degrees from the University of Notre Dame; a Bachelor of Philosophy in Business Administration in 1942 and a Law Degree in 1950. He also received his Varsity Monogram letter in football at Notre Dame in 1942. Tony enlisted in the US Army in August of 1942 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant at Fort Benning GA. He joined the 158th Regiment Combat Team in the Philippines and received an Honorable Discharge as a 1st Lieutenant in September 1946. Tony was proceeded in death by his wife Vivian Kubiak and his siblings Alduina Adami Charles Girolami George Girolami and Guido Girolami. He is survived by one daughter Carol Lynn Hollander son-in law Theodore Hollander niece Gay Girolami and nephews Tony Girolami Nick Adami Guido Girolami and Michael Girolami along with 7 grand-nieces and 1 grand-nephew. Tony was an active volunteer throughout his life; first at the American Boys Camp for Needy Children in Coloma WI and for the past 27 years as a tour guide at the Ponce de Leon Lighthouse. He was the recipient of the 2004 Outstanding Florida Volunteers - Trustee Award from the Florida Association of Museums the Ponce Inlet Citizen of the Year in 1989 and the Ponce Inlet Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.
