Anne R.
Gallion
Jun 14, 1929 — Apr 29, 2021
Anne Rutter Gallion, 91, of Ormond Beach, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on April 29, 2021 at Halifax Hospice Center, Ormond Beach. She was born June 14, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland to Dr. Joseph H. and Mildred (Haughay) Rutter.
In 1946, Anne graduated from Mainland High School in Daytona Beach. She married John Haines Gallion Jr., her childhood sweetheart, in 1948 and then graduated from the University of Maryland in 1951. She and John raised three children together in Indianapolis, Indiana. Anne was a homemaker, as well as an accomplished horsewoman, a Master Gardener, and a gifted writer. Anne and her husband loved to sail and travel together.
Anne and John spent a decade of their retirement in Eden, their property in Western North Carolina where they learned to become homesteaders. While there, they also secured grants for the construction of a community center that provided services to underprivileged children. She was a devout Christian and was a parishioner at St Mary's Episcopal Church while she lived in Daytona Beach. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Anne was a consummate story teller and had a zest for life that made her a joy to be around.
Anne is survived by her daughter, Susan Gallion Bégin and her husband Ron of Ormond Beach, her son, Daniel Scott Gallion and his wife Eileen of Zachary, Louisiana; by five grandchildren, Brian Gallion (Sarah), Anne Bégin Myer (Rory), Adam Bégin (Jamie), Megan Gallion, and John Haines Gallion IV; and by seven great grandchildren: Renée, Liam, Claire, Hallie, Corinne, Jonathan, and Caitlynn.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of over 70 years, John Haines Gallion in April 2019 and by her son, John Haines Gallion III in February 2012.
A family service of remembrance will be celebrated at a future date. Contributions may be made in Anne's memory to Halifax Hospice of Ormond Beach. Arrangements are under the care of Lohnman Funeral Home, Ormond Beach. Condolences for the family may be shared at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com
