Peggy was born March 3, 1930 in Elkton, VA to Ashbey and Sarah Hammer. After high school, she worked as a computer operator for the US Senate in Washington, D.C. Peggy met and married the love of her life, John Staton, a Navy man. They raised their daughter Brenda in Maryland.

In 1998, Peggy and John decided to retire to Florida. After visiting their grandson, John, in Ormond by the Sea, they bought the house across the street from him. Peggy and John were active members of the Elks Club in Maryland and Florida. Peggy was also active with the Eagles #4435 and the American Legion Auxiliary #267. Peggy had been a member of the Riverview United Methodist Church since 2005.

Peggy enjoyed reading the Bible everyday. She loved gardening, having a large vegetable garden in Maryland and beautiful flowers in her yard in Florida. Peggy was an avid baker and seamstress for her family and friends. She was also a big fan of Bingo and slot machines.

Peggy was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, John, in 2004. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Brenda Staton; by her grandchildren: John Pyle (James Harper, Jr.), Jaime Lewis (JJ Lewis), and Beth Hodges; by her great-grandchildren Trevor Lewis and Tyler Lewis. She is also survived by her brother Elwood Hammer and sisters Thickie Hammer and Marie Schifflet. Peggy will be mourned by her many nieces and nephews, especially Tommy Jones, and by her dear Pekinese Baby. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Ormond.
