Obituary

Anna Veronica Urban Doherty was born July 9, 1916 to Rosalie and Adam Urban in Baltimore, Maryland. She married James Joseph Doherty, who worked for the Secret Service, on June 3, 1940. She had a thirty year career with the Internal Revenue Service at Baltimore in the Washington, D.C District, was included in the teaching staff to train revenue agents, and retired in 1960 as a tax law specialist. She died January 9, 2014.

Anna and her husband James traveled extensively throughout the world. After settling in Ormond Beach, Florida in 1974 she held many volunteer positions, such as Eucharistic minister for Our Lady of Lourdes, teacher for an adult literacy program at the Ormond Beach Library, and make-up artist for the senior productions at the Ormond Beach Senior Center. She ushered for over thirty years at Aisle 4 of the Peabody Auditorium, and also for many years at the Daytona Playhouse, Seaside Music Theater, The Florida International Festival, The News Journal Center, Bethune Cookman College, Daytona Beach Community College and the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center. She loved being a central part of the community.

Mrs. Doherty was an active member of the Sisters Cities of Volusia County, The Symphony Guild of Daytona Beach, a Garden Club, Friends of the Ormond Beach Library, Cinematique, The Secret Attic Thrift Shop, and the Saint Brendan's Women Club as well as the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Known for her quick wit and gregarious nature she was a hostess of renown at many holiday dinners and card playing activities. She loved and was loved by numerous friends especially Lola K. Yellen and Cheryl Hawryluk. She was very proud to be a resident of this area and enjoy being out and about, a big part of it.
Mrs. Doherty was pre-deceased by her husband James in 1993, and is survived by Phyllis Hilgeman, William F. Mason III, and many other loving friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 10th between the hours of 5-7 pm at Lohman Funeral Home; 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Brendan's Catholic Church; 1000 Ocean Shore Blvd. Ormond Beach on Saturday, January 11th at 11:00 am. Interment will be held in a family plot in The Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland. Mrs. Doherty's love of life, energy, conversation, and community service will be extremely missed.
