Anita Marie Saunders, 60, Daytona Beach, passed away peacefully at Halifax Health Medical Center on Friday, April 18, 2014. She was born Sept. 11, 1953 in Madison, Wisconsin and moved to Daytona Beach in 1969. She retired from the News-Journal after more than 35 years of service. She loved reading... "There will always be something left undone, another book to be read", watching her favorite cooking shows, dancing, and the Beatles and Elvis Presley.

Anita was the matriarch of her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt and friend. She was kind, thoughtful, independent, had a great sense of humor, and remembered every little thing that anyone ever said or did.

Visitation will be held Wed., April 23 from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Funeral Service at Lohman's Daytona Funeral Home, 1423 Bellevue Ave, Daytona Beach, FL. Graveside Service will be held Thursday, April 24 at 1:00 p.m.

Survivors include her daughters: Lacey Fitzgivens, Maryland, Katie Fitzgivens, Daytona Beach; sons Brian Beane, Daniel Saunders, both of Daytona; six grandchildren and one on the way; one sister, Lauren Baggerson, Daytona; two brothers: Danny Oakes, Daytona and Robert Michael Oakes, California; mother Carol Oakes, Daytona; and her fiance Robert "Bob" Fanelli, Daytona Beach.
