Angeline Galantis-Licouris Constant known to all as ?Angie? fell asleep in the Lord June 4 2006.
In her 81 years on earth she touched everyone with her lively personality and her heartwarming humor. She was born on Symi Island Dodecanese Greece on September 2 1924 to parents Demetrios and Koulla Licouris-Galantis. She came to America in 1932 and received her BS in Education from Youngstown Sate University and taught Multiple Handicapped Children at Bonner School in Youngstown Ohio. She was inducted into Kappa Theta Pi Honor Society in Education and was active outside of her teaching duties by serving as PTA President at McCartney School in Campbell Ohio.
In 1969 Angie followed her beloved husband Sam to Daytona Beach where she helped in his business Joyland Amusement Center. After being convinced that there was a shortage of teachers Angie went to work for the Volusia County School System as a kindergarten teacher at Longstreet Elementary School.
A philanthropist and a leader in the Greek Orthodox community she was a member of Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church in Campbell Ohio where her father and husband were founders and Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Daytona Beach were both she and her husband spearheaded many fundraising activities. She served as president of the Ladies Philoptochos Society of St. Michael when she was in Ohio and as President of St. Barbara Philoptochos Society in Daytona Beach for six years consecutively. She taught Greek School Sunday School was Advisor to the Greek Orthodox Youth Association GOYA and to the Maids of Athena and served as President of the Daughters of Penelope. Angie served in the choirs of both churches. She loved her Church and its hymns and will be singing ?Fos Ilaron? Oh Radiant Light standing in the brightness of Christ?s own light and her countless number of friends who will remember her best for the laughter she shared with us making this a better world.
A Royalist Angie helped sponsor the visit of King Constantine and Queen Anna Maria to Atlanta Georgia in 1991 to benefit The Southern Center of International Studies. Married for 58 years to Sotirios Sam Constant the couple has two children Renee Constant Gahagan and James Constant Marina. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and they will miss their YiaYia. Billy Debbie and Sammy Gahagan Sotirios Kosta and Martha Constant. In addition she leaves behind two brothers former Mayor Nick Licouris-Galantis Jennie and daughter Nikki of Morehead City N.C.; Tom Licouris-Galantis Bess and their children Chrissie James and Nick all of Campbell Ohio; and sister Irene Poulos Lou of Palm Beach Gardens and Kukla; five grand nieces and nephews and a bevy of God Children Koumbari and friends. The funeral service will be celebrated by Bishop Dimitrios of Xanthos Archimandrite Nicholas Graff Fr. George Savas and area clergy at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday June 7th at 11:00 a.m.. Christian burial will immediately follow at Daytona Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday June 6th from 6-8pm also at the church with the Trisagion service at 7pm. Memorial Donations may be made in Angie?s honor to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 129 N.
