IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Andrew Charles
Rock
March 12, 1967 – November 16, 2025
BUNNELL, Fla. ― Andrew Charles Rock of Bunnell died Nov. 16, 2025, after a long illness. He was 58.
Andrew was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on March 12, 1967, to William A. and Maureen L. Rock. He grew up in Westfield, New Jersey, and attended Westfield Schools, struggling with learning disabilities that masked his intelligence and challenged him academically all his life. He briefly attended Adelphi University and in his 40s returned to college to earn his LPN degree in 2011 from Union County College in New Jersey.
After relocating to Florida, he returned to school and earned his RN degree in 2018 from Jersey College School of Nursing in Jacksonville. In 2017, Andrew wrote a paper about the adverse impact of an educational model that segregates learning-disabled children ― as he was ― in special ed classrooms, thus depriving them of regular classroom opportunities, with their peers, to learn socialization and emotional interaction ― which is compounded by their underlying neurological challenges.
Andrew worked for a time on the nursing staff of Suwannee Correctional Institution in Live Oak before moving to Jacksonville. On June 25, 2022, he married the love of his life, Diana Stanley Hayes of Bunnell, whom he met in nursing school. Well loved by those who endeavored to know him, Andrew had an innate wisdom, a generous and loving spirit, and an endearing, dry sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, Andrew leaves his stepchildren, Caleb Hayes, partner Brianna Whitefield and daughter Gracelynn of St. Augustine, and Addison Hayes of Bunnell; his mother, Maureen Rock of Westfield, N.J.; a sister, Jennifer Rock and husband Alexander Chinn of Ossining, N.Y.; two brothers, Daniel Rock of Toronto and John Rock and wife Nancy Jorge Rock of Old Bridge, N.J.; four nephews and a niece; and his stepmother, Carolyn Zachary of DeLand. He was predeceased by his father, William A. Rock.
The family has chosen to celebrate Andrew's life privately.
