Anastasia (Hazel) Shyko

May 8, 1921 - February 11, 2021

Anastasia passed away peacefully at her home in Paonia, Colorado, just 3 months short of her 100th Birthday. A 30-year survivor of colon cancer, her strength and resilience carried her through her entire life and final moments.

Anastasia was born in Pennsylvania. In 1940 she married John Shyko in New Jersey where they raised two daughters before retiring to Ormond/Port Orange Florida in 1975.  At 95 she moved to Colorado to live out her twilight years closer to Family.

Known fondly as Hazel for most of her life, she was passionate about family, home decorating, cooking, baking and entertaining. She was a gracious hostess to family and friends. Anastasia also took great pride in her appearance & accessorizing, being known as "The Hat Lady" at church on Sundays.  She was appreciated by all who knew her for her abundant grace and generosity.

Anastasia was preceded in death by her beloved husband John in 2007.  She leaves behind her sister Irene (Mike) Amara, her loving daughters Joanna (Bob) Bohan and Tess (Tom) Backhus, granddaughters Leilah, Lauren, Jessica, and four great-grandsons. Her memory will be eternal in our hearts.
