Amelie Etienne (ne Thevenot) of Ormond Beach FL died Thursday May 24 2012.
Amelie was born in the northern coastal city of Port-de-Paix Haiti on July 22 1936. She was one of eight children born to the late Rene Thevenot and Marguerite Van der Poole Thevenot. Following her adolescent years she moved to the capital city of Port-au-Prince where she completed her education and eventually attended medical school at the Facult de Medecine Haiti. In 1965 she married one of her classmates the late Dr. Noles Etienne with whom she had three children. She immigrated with her young family to Brooklyn N.Y. in 1972. Amelie lived in Brooklyn for 37 years before relocating to Ormond Beach in 2007. Amelie was a pediatrician and enjoyed children but her real passion was family. She regularly opened her home and her heart to friends and family. She was a traditional Haitian-American woman who for over 40 years was a regular member of St. Francis of Assisi (Brooklyn) Our Lady of Lourdes (Brooklyn) and Prince of Peace (Ormond Beach) churches. But she was also an adventurous woman who was open to new experiences. She experienced many "firsts" in her 60's and 70's including learning to swim yoga acupuncture skyping Wii dance and sports and Caribbean travel. She enjoyed poetry and music throughout her life.
She is survived by three grateful and admiring children: Annemarie Nola Etienne Margareth Etienne and Junod Etienne. She is also survived by five granddaughters three siblings and countless other loved ones. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
A viewing will be held Friday June 1 2012 from 5-8p.m. at Lohman Funeral Home Ormond 733 W. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach. A Mass will be held Saturday June 2 2012 at Prince of Peace Church at 11 a.m. followed by the burial at Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery.
