Alvin L. Simmons age 88 of Daytona Beach passed away suddenly in his home on Saturday May 10 2008. A graveside memorial in his honor will be held Friday May 23 2008 2:00 PM at Lohman Daytona Memorial Park 1425 Bellevue Ave. Daytona Beach. Mr. Simmons was a 2nd generation born in Volusia County Florida Native and could trace his ancestry to 188 years of Florida residency He attended high school in New Smyrna Beach and earned a Masters in Education from Stetson University. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII serving as a LT on a Landing Craft Tank. He dedicated his professional life as a elementary school principle of four Volusia County schools. Mr. Simmons was a rare breed: intelligent creative unpretentious with a sly sense of humor and driven by a desire for worthwhile achievement. Following retirement he devoted his energies to his vegetable garden canning his vegetables working on small engines and fixing cars. His beloved wife of 50 years Doris preceded him in 1993 and he leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons Keith (Kathy) Simmons Land o Lakes FL and Randy (Dara) Simmons Port Orange FL 3 grandchildren Kevin (Cortney)Simmons Nicholas Wilson and Katelyn Simmons and the many students teachers and parents he guided along the way.
